Conversations with Her and Him
(riding in car)
Her: I want a baby.
Him: No babies.
Her: I want a baby
Him: No babies.
Him: I thought our mantra was "no babies no babies no babies".
Her: I want a baby.
Her: But it would have to be a girl.
Him: Listen... SHUT UP! I want one more than you do, ok?
Him: Be careful what you say out loud.
(pause)
Her: I want a puppy.

Puppies are cute. I like the little ones with great big eyes. I will love him and squeeze him and call him George.
...or maybe Phil.
Lots of babies, the better the more! ; )

@Mischief_Skittles - why you little...

This is one great reason husband I have a cat. It's an effective outlet for any spare parental instincts! It has big eyes, a tiny pink tongue, is soft to the touch, is warm, lightweight and easily held, needs care and feeding, makes high pitched mewling noises, and gives tokens of affection that cause great joy.
Sure, it may not grow up and get smarter, but it doesn't have to be fed every few hours, can be left at home alone all day or even over a weekend, washes itself, and was born potty/litter trained. It seems to me like the most hassle-free animate object of affection ever unless you really like sea monkeys. (Don't get me wrong, I think I want kids one day, but for now, since I'm in school, an animal fills that role very well...)
I've had this conversation only it didn't turn out well and I'm not allowed to say "shut up" without the rustle of divorce papers. Managed to avoid the puppy, though.
